UMS designs and manufactures reconfigurable, high fidelity motion simulators for military driver training. Our core product, the Reconfigurable Driver Simulator (RDS), is a highly dynamic motion platform consisting of a six degree of freedom robotic arm, interchangeable replica vehicle cabins, haptically enabled control devices and immersive simulation environments featuring detailed vehicle dynamics and terrain modelling.
UMS has delivered RDS systems to the Australian Army for use at their driver training facility in Puckapunyal, Victoria. UMS has also secured contracts to replicate and simulate 5 Australian Army vehicles, for driver training purposes.
UMS headquarters are based in a unique advanced manufacturing innovation hub on the Deakin University Waurn Ponds Campus, Waurn Ponds, Victoria.
The Role
Reporting to the Maintenance Services Lead (Lead FSR), the Field Service Representative (FSR) is responsible for providing reliable and timely service maintenance, operational and training support to our customer for the UMS designed Reconfigurable Driver Simulators (RDS).
In doing so, this role conducts repairs and maintenance in the state-of-the-art simulation facility and provide training support at the Australian Army training facility in Puckapunyal, Victoria. This role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail and established interpersonal skills.
This role is in the Puckapunyal Military Area, with occasional travel to Waurn Ponds for training and stakeholder meetings. The role will also require travel to Lavarack Barracks, Townsville QLD, to assist with the setup of the new RDS facility and act as a reserve FSR if required.
Responsibilities
The Field Service Representative (FSR) will:
Conduct daily start-up check activities to ensure the system is serviceable.
Inspect equipment and system components to identify any issues.
Repair faulty equipment in accordance with the Corrective Maintenance Manual.
Conduct preventative maintenance procedures in accordance with the Preventative Manual.
Assist with planning and schedule repairs.
Document all maintenance tasks in the Maintenance Management System (MMS) used by UMS.
Ensure the achievement of system availability targets.
Maintain records of equipment and supplies inventory.
Exchange cabins (vehicle types) in accordance with client training schedule.
Assist and support the Australian Army training instructors training.
Provide feedback on and input to the UMS RDS operation and maintenance processes.
Provide reports of any incidents to the Maintenance Services Lead.
Maintain UMS’s excellent relationship with the client.
Where documented processes for intended works do not exist. The FSR will consult with the Maintenance Services Lead on the intended works.
Participate in any Take 5 risk assessments carried out by the Maintenance Services Lead and comply with the recommendations from this assessment.
Other Tasks as required.
Required Skills
Demonstrated experience with trouble shooting, fault finding and repairing equipment.
Automotive and or electronic diagnostic skills.
Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills, with internal and external stakeholders
High level of attention to detail.
High level of knowledge and experience using Microsoft products, MMS products, JIRA and other IT management software.
Display exceptional listening and analytical skills to understand customers’ needs and concerns and the ability to respond promptly and effectively to these needs.
A “Lateral thinker”, who understands logical troubleshooting structures.
High level of self-motivation and standards with the ability to multi-task.
Proven ability to develop goals and plans; allocate resources accordingly and prioritise work to meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
Ability to travel as/if required to Waurn Ponds and Townsville.
Trade qualified or hold tertiary qualifications in an electronics or mechatronics discipline.
TAE40122 Certificate IV (or equivalent) in Training and Assessment or willing to undertake the training within the first 12 months of employment.
Australian Citizenship and eligibility for Baseline security clearance.
Demonstrated experience maintaining high fidelity motion simulators.
Understanding/Experienced in ADF Capability and Training.
